People often use online storage services to store their photos, videos, documents, and much more other things. But, I guess most of the cloud services only provide limited storage space to use and if you exceed the limit, you will be prompted to purchase additional storage. But, with the Telegram, you can store unlimited files online and you get them back whenever you want easily.
Use Telegram as a Personal Cloud Storage
Telegram is a free cloud-based messaging service which you can access via Android or iOS smartphone, Mac or Windows laptop or directly through a web browser. It is super convenient and no worries for losing your messages since it stores everything on its cloud. And we are going to take an advantage of this feature. Further, the best thing about the Telegram is it provides us with the bot facilities. You can make your own bot to work it as you want.
Look, the storage should be personal. If you are thinking that I will say to send your files to your friends or anyone else, then you are thinking wrong. We are not going to send anything to anyone. Everything will be private.
So, to use Telegram as a cloud storage, we will be making the bot. Don’t worry I will make everything as simple as I can. And you won’t require to do coding or computer. You can do everything using your smartphones.
01. Make Telegram Account, Skip If You Have Already
Starting with downloading Telegram from the Google Play Store. There are two different versions, Telegram and Telegram X. Both are works the same. But, I would prefer to download Telegram X because it has some customization options and better UI than traditional Telegram.
Once downloaded, simply open up a new account by registering your contact number. It is super simple and easy.
02. Make a New Bot
It’s time to create a new cloud storage. So, you have to make a new bot which is super simple.
- Tap on the Search button located right-side upper corner and search for BotFather. It should have an icon as I have shown in the screenshot below. This is official Telegram bot to make a new bot.
- Open the BotFather. To make a new bot tap on the ‘Forward Slash‘ icon next to the emoji key. And then tap on ‘/newbot‘ from the options on your screen.
- Now, it will ask for information like its name and username. Simply give a reply back to bot by typing its name and username.
- Done! You have created a new bot.
03. Setup New Bot and Start Storing Files
Once your bot is created, BotFather will provide its link, as you can see in my case it is t.me/ThisIsSampleBot as I have selected. So, simply now tap on the provided link and you will be redirected to the chat box with your bot.
Tap on the start button below and done. Start sending your files to this bot. This is unlimited free cloud storage that you can use to store anything you want.
Now, you might think that you have created the bot and what if someone else uses this bot. So, let me tell you, you do not have to worry about your files. This bot is now to use for everyone and anyone can search for this bot. But, for everyone, it will work as a private bot. No one will be able to see your files. I also have created my own bot and shared files with it. If you want, you can use the same by searching username: mycloudstoragebot or simply tap on this link.
If you are still having any problem, then feel free to leave a feedback in the comment section. I will surely reply back to you.

This article is nice, however to store our files in “Saved Messages” (Previously Self Chat), what is the difference between both..thank you..
Hello Markus, there is not much or I would say, no difference between the Saved Messages feature and Bot. For a normal person, both works in the same way. However, people who are connected with their web-pages and in website business like me can integrate this both with their website. So, this bot automatically sends files or links which becomes quite handy. Thank you for asking. Hope it is clear now. And sorry for the late reply. 🙂
This is truly interesting. However, I was hoping that there could be some file organization somewhat, such as making a folder structure to contain files, and tagging files and folders for ease of searching.
That’s what exactly I am missing right now. So, what I do is, I name all files properly and upload them. So, I can easily search for them whenever I want.
Unfortunately, as I read https://core.telegram.org/bots – it says there “Bots have limited cloud storage — older messages may be removed by the server shortly after they have been processed.” 🙁
Confirmed. Official Telegram page linked states Telegram bots have limited storage. See section 4 how are bots different from humans.
Thanks , I have recently been looking for info about this subject
for a while and yours is the best I have found out so far.
But, what about the bottom line? Are you positive in regards to the
source?
