How to Enable DarkMode in WhatsApp on Xiaomi Phones [No App Installation]

Finally, the WhatsApp to adopt dark mode soon in 2019 along with other new exciting features. Facebook owes WhatsApp which has now more than 1.5 billion monthly active users. Among the all other messaging services available on Play Store, WhatsApp is arguably the most used application, at least in India. And this could be the main reason that it might get ‘Ads’ in a status feature in the future.

Note: Before you get into the article, let me inform you that this method will only work for Xiaomi devices running on MIUI 9, MIUI 10 or higher. So, please don’t try if you are using another device.

Coming onto the upcoming WhatsApp features, we already have a shared article. And the most anticipated one is Dark mode which WhatsApp is finally going to get early in 2019. The new update is not so far from us. But, for all of those who want to get Dark Mode in WhatsApp, this method will work for you. Of course, we are not going to use any third-party application.

Getting Dark Mode in WhatsApp

Xiaomi devices are well known for ads in OS and especially for bloatware. Yes, you can get rid of it anytime. But, from Xiaomi’s own apps, it might impossible. Anyways, your device which is running on MIUI should have Xiaomi’s ‘Themes’ app in it.

01. Starting with the downloading a theme from ‘Themes’ app on your Xiaomi device. Go to the ‘Themes’ app.

02. Now, simply search for ‘Darkoid’ theme. You might get a few more options there. But you have to choose one which is shown in the image below.

Just in case if you don’t see theme in search results then please change region to India from your device settings.

03. Download this theme on your Android device and simply ‘Apply’ it. Just in case if it asks to restart your device, then do restart.

04. Once applied, the WhatsApp should be converted into the Dark Mode. This theme will convert whole WhatsApp into the Dark Mode. In my case, there is a green default image set as chat wallpaper but you can choose a completely black image to feel a whole dark theme.

Here’s what we think

Converting WhatsApp into dark mode using this method is not quite useful for everyone. As you noticed, this is with the help of theme. If you will apply theme on your device, the whole device UI will get changes which are not quite convenient for everyone. The reason for writing this article is to fulfill a request of many of our readers who want to get dark mode in WhatsApp without using a third-party app. Sadly, for another device, this method won’t work. But, they can wait for WhatsApp’s official Dark Mode feature. It will arrive soon.
